The Hatchet

The hatchet
The hatchet you wield I can not see,
yet you hold it over me
And dare I try to myself defend
You'll wield this hatchet again and again

The hatchet is not easily seen,
its hiding behind your smoke screen
and when you use it to get your way
a little piece of me dies that day

The hatchet is there to destroy
any defense I might employ
The hatchet is all you need to swing
To utterly destroy the most harmless thing

Oh but you say such loving things
with that hatchet ever near...
And you smile with such tender feelings
as if there's nothing to fear...

And yet you've been forgiven
and yet you never forgive
Never thankful for the life you're living
Never happy that you still live

The hatchet is your weapon
yet the victim you do play
and those you claim to love
Can only stay away...

The hatchet is your broken mind
but it serves you oh so well
for it is the excuse you wont leave behind
For putting others in hell..

  1. YOU my friend rocked this poem. Need I say, how well said and strong the words. Beautiful, wonderful, mysterious and blunt!!!

    1. I fear if I become too eloquent with the words there may be some that it's message will be lost on..lol...but I know it will speak to those that can relate..and that is what I love about any poetry I read, is when I can relate to it..on some level..and I guess that is what poetry is, when we use our words though personal and intimate, they often speak for many..I like that idea..because not everyone can find the words..poetry brings the words to them. :)
